On Sunday, two students came to The Field Library and treated us to an awesome Soccer Robotics Demonstration. Alan and Eric, who represented the US in the RoboCup International competition in Singapore in 2010, talked about how they constructed and programmed their robots. And then they put their robots to the test. It was fascinating to watch as the robots chased the electronic ball. How do the robots know where the ball is? Special infrared or ultrasonic sensors. Wow!
We were surprised to hear that every year, they have to redesign their robots in order to meet the changing weight and size requirements. We were all in awe of these two students who have spent hours and hours trying to design and program the best possible soccer-playing robots in the world!
