This Saturday is Juneteenth! The holiday’s name comes from the date – June 19th, 1865 – when the Emancipation Proclamation was read out in Texas, marking the official end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is a time to celebrate freedom and to reflect on the history of slavery in our country.
